چکیده

Identifying the cause of an underperforming WLAN can be challenging due to the presence of a plethora of devices and networks operating in the ISM band. Such devices cause electromagnetic interference that can potentially undermine the throughput of residential and enterprise WiFi networks. In this paper, we propose an interference estimation and monitoring technique for 802.11 Access Points that can be implemented without specialized hardware and without any modification to wireless stations. We validate our technique with commercial hardware, evaluating its accuracy with different types of interferers.

Enabling Coexistence of ZigBee and WiFi

Spectrum scarcity is known to be main obstacle to scaling of wireless network capacity. Spectrum sharing is a solution to this problem. The unlicensed ISM band is getting crowded by WLAN and WPAN users and devices. Spectrum sharing within the devices of same network is not a problem. But coexistence of WLAN and WPAN (eg: WiFi and ZigBee) is a challenging problem. Spectrum sharing among these ne...

Exploiting temporal and spatial variation for WiFi interference avoidance in ZigBee networks

In the Internet of Things (IoT), different wireless technologies will be used to build various micro-systems, which result mutual interference among these micro-systems. Specifically, ZigBee networks share the 2.4GHz ISM band with WiFi but have much lower transmission power. Therefore, the ZigBee networks inevitably suffer the interference from WiFi Networks. Unlike previous approaches that foc...

Minimising the effect of WiFi interference in 802.15.4 wireless sensor networks

Interference from colocated networks operating over the same frequency range, becomes an increasingly severe problem as the number of networks overlapping geographically increases. Our experiments show that such interference is indeed a major problem, causing up to 58% packet loss to a multihop 802.15.4 sensor network competing for radio spectrum with a WiFi network. We present interference est...

Cross-layer Framework for Fine-grained Channel Access in Next Generation High-density WiFi Networks

Densely deployed WiFi networks will play a crucial role in providing the capacity for next generation mobile internet. However, due to increasing interference, overlapped channels in WiFi networks and throughput efficiency degradation, densely deployed WiFi networks is not a guarantee to obtain higher throughput. An emergent challenge is how to efficiently utilize scarce spectrum resources, by ...

WiFiNetMon: Interference Measurement in Long Distance WiFi Mesh Networks

Over the past few years long distance WiFi links have emerged as a viable option to provide connectivity to rural regions. Its cost effectiveness compared to wired networks has been particularly attractive. However, networks consisting of such links has been a topic of research only recently. As a result, although several long distance WiFi deployments exist, little has been done in the area of...
